The two chosen sources I decided to read about were Fire inspector and video game designer. The primary role of a fire inspector is to inspect buildings and their storage areas for materials that could cause ignition for a fire. Fire inspectors look for anything in a facility that may be hazardous to the environment. They look over fire suppression plans to make sure every building in their district is in good shape and has no risks of catching fire. They inspect the fire suppression equipment such as fire sprinklers and the building alarm panel in public facilities. They do inspections in stores, hospitals, hotels, and many other places. Fire inspectors provide feedback on those facilities regarding the fire suppression equipment and discuss ways to better it. Being a fire inspector in the field requires a lot of written communication. Fire inspectors have to keep records and reports of all facilities they have done inspections on. They may have to use professional writing when sending emails out about fire inspections to their leadership. They could even use professional writing when sending letters to businesses about observations or assessments of their fire suppression equipment in their buildings. I would ask what the typical hours they work during the week are? My view of this career field is that it may require a lot of documenting and writing that I would have to do. It will also require on-the-job experience and might even require certifications and licenses to get the job.
The other source I read about was being a video game designer. It can be evident to some people that game designers design games, but it can be a lot of roles they must fulfill. A video game designer’s job is to make the stories for the game, characters, graphics, music, computer programming, and many other roles in making a game. With their many parts comes the responsibility of sending in resumes and letters with their work for a game project to publishers that may consider their proposal. Designers use written communication skills to design documents and stories for the game. A question I would ask would be, do you have to have a degree to be a designer for the game? And if so, what type of degree do you need to be a game designer? My view on the career field is still the same as before I read about the source because I knew many design jobs require skills. I also learned that you would need to have good written communication skills for these career fields because it’s a big part of the job.
